Like all medications, weight loss treatments can cause side effects. Most are mild and temporary, but all patients should be informed of possible risks.
Common (usually temporary) side effects include:
• Nausea
• Heartburn / Indigestion
• Constipation
• Diarrhoea
• Vomiting
• Headaches
• Fatigue
• Dizziness
• Flatulence & Belching
• Hair loss (typically transient and reversible)
• Injection site reactions
Stay well hydrated to prevent dehydration and reduce the risk of kidney complications.
Less common but serious side effects may include:
• Gallstone disease or pancreatitis – Symptoms: upper abdominal pain, vomiting, fever, or abdominal swelling. Seek urgent medical attention if these occur.
• Severe allergic reactions – Symptoms: difficulty breathing, hives, facial swelling. Call 111 or 999 immediately.
• Low blood sugar in non-diabetic patients – Symptoms: excessive sweating, dizziness, hunger, or blurred vision. Seek immediate medical help.
