General Surgeon, Upper GI
MD
With nearly a decade of surgical experience, including the past six years in the UK, Mr Giuseppe De Santis is a highly skilled Consultant Surgeon at Mid Cheshire NHS Foundation Trust, specialising in Laparoscopic General and Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) Surgery. His clinical expertise encompasses a broad range of minimally invasive procedures for gastrointestinal disorders, gallbladder pathology and OTC, bile duct exploration, inguinal, ventral, and umbilical hernias—performed both openly and laparoscopically.
Mr Giuseppe De Santis has a particular interest in the management of UGI tract conditions such as hiatus hernia, dysphagia, and reflux disease, offering both conservative and operative treatments. Since his appointment as a Consultant in 2019, he has performed over 2,000 operations, including laparoscopic cholecystectomy, hernia repair, and anti-reflux procedures.
In addition to his subspecialty in UGI and laparoscopic surgery, he is passionate about trauma and emergency surgery. His formative surgical training was deeply shaped by the 2009 earthquake that devastated his hometown of L’Aquila, Italy, where he served as a first-line surgeon in a natural disaster zone. This life-changing experience instilled in him a strong sense of resilience and dedication to patient care under the most challenging circumstances.
Fluent in both English and Italian, he is able to offer consultations in either language—a valuable service for the Italian community in and around Cheshire seeking private healthcare.
As an active faculty member of the Royal College of Surgeons of London, he has served as a trainer for the RCS Core Skills in Laparoscopic Surgery course (Liverpool, June 2021). He has also led training for the Surgical First Assistance Operative Procedure programme (November 2020 – July 2021), supporting the professional development of nursing staff in the operating theatre.
