At Enigma Healthcare, we want your PSA (prostate-specific antigen) result to be as accurate and helpful as possible. Your GP will advise you individually. In general, a few temporary factors can nudge PSA levels, so a little preparation goes a long way.
Avoid ejaculation for 48 hours.
Skip vigorous exercise for 48 hours, especially cycling or spin classes.
If you have urinary symptoms, fever, or think you have a prostate/urinary infection, please contact us to rebook.
Tell us about your medicines and supplements. Some can affect PSA (for example, finasteride or dutasteride).
Let us know about recent procedures such as catheterisation, cystoscopy, or a prostate biopsy—you may need to wait a few weeks.
If you’re having a rectal examination the same day, try to have your blood taken before the examination.
No fasting needed—eat and drink as normal.
Stay hydrated to make the blood test easier.
Our friendly team will take a small blood sample; it’s quick and usually only mildly uncomfortable.
A PSA result is one piece of the picture. A higher reading doesn’t necessarily mean cancer, and a normal reading doesn’t always rule it out. We’ll explain your result clearly and discuss any next steps, including repeat testing or onward referral if needed.
Ready to book? Schedule your PSA test with Enigma Healthcare—we’ll guide you through every step so your result is as reliable as possible.
